With its Centennial Discovery automated IT audit and Enteo Operating System Deployment solutions, FrontRange makes it easier to both plan and execute a migration to Microsoft Vista.
“With Service Pack 1 now released, more and more organisations will consider migrating part or all of their IT estate to Windows Vista,” said Stephan Glathe, FrontRange Vice-President. “However, to manage the migration effectively, they need to both have full visibility of the current IT assets on the network and have an effective solution for the automated deployment of the new operating system.”
Using Centennial Discovery, organisations can quickly assess how many PCs are currently connected to the corporate network and the specific versions of the operating systems and business applications that are installed. What's more, the tool features a specific Vista Upgrade wizard which helps IT managers understand which PCs on the network are capable of supporting Vista's minimum specifications versus which machines need upgrading or replacing. Centennial Discovery can then place a cost and timeline against these requirements.
The FrontRange Client Lifecycle solution then allows, among other things, the use of the new WIM images as an installation source and provides support for user account control, and file and registry virtualisation of legacy applications. In addition, both 32- and 64-bit versions are supported.
FrontRange achieves greater flexibility in the Vista rollout with the use of Windows PE 2.0 as the boot environment. Windows PE is the successor to DOS for the operating system rollout, which simplifies installation via the network and the running of diagnosis programs.
