NAB plans temp ATMs

To provide greater convenience for customers at outdoor events, Telstra and the National Australia Bank (NAB) have announced a joint initiative for the rapid deployment of ATMs at temporary locations, says Computerworld.

By utilising wireless technology, there is no need to connect to physical communication lines. NAB is seeking to leverage its investment in new ATMs by connecting to Telstra's Next G network for deployment at major sporting and cultural events across Australia.

Deals have already been secured for the Royal Melbourne Show in September followed by the Bathurst 1000 in October.

Banks should focus on unbanked

The secretary of IT, government of Sindh, Muhammad Zakir said reaching millions of un-banked Pakistanis in the rural area should be the focus of banks and service providers, reports TradingMarkets.com.

This was during the sixth international e-banking conference and exhibition. He said the government will continue to support the IT sector that has grown tremendously over the last few years.

He was also of the opinion that these kind of events are a good platform to exchange expert views and get valuable knowledge from international experts.

HSBC considers certification

HSBC is considering rolling out security certificates in a move to prevent phishing attacks across 650 Web sites worldwide after rolling out the technology in its UK retail operation, says ComputerWeekly.com.

The bank is attempting to increase customer confidence in online banking by installing software to show customers they are on a genuine HSBC Web site rather than a phishing Web site designed to steal customers' banking details.

The bank's UK retail Web sites will use Verisign's Extended Validation SSL certificates from May. The software displays a green bar on the screen to reassure customers they are on a genuine Web site.
