Multenet concludes negotiations

Multenet Technologies announces conclusion of negotiations with Chelton Satcom, Inc for the development of an Ethernet Router Board for the new Multi-channel Swift64 High Speed Data SATCOM.

Johannesburg, 29 Jan 2004

Multenet is pleased to announce that it has concluded negotiations for the development contract to supply an Ethernet Router Board (ERB), the on-board networking system for Chelton Satcom`s new Inmarsat Swift64 Aero High Speed Data system. This system has truly allowed the international and regional air-traveller to remain in contact with family, friends and business associates with e-mail and internet access whilst on the move.

Dubbed the HSD-6000 and the HSD-7000, the systems share common SATCOM system components consisting of the new SDU-7300 Dual-Channel Swift64 Satellite Data Unit, the new HPA-7400 High Power Amplifier and the DAU-7050 Diplexer/LNA (DLNA). Both systems can operate independently of aircraft reference systems with the inclusion of the SRU-7200 Satcom Reference Unit. Utilising the latest in Swift64 modem technology, the SDU-7300 was jointly developed by Chelton Satcom and Nera SatCom of Billingstad, Norway.

The 3-MCU SDU-7300 provides two Swift64 channels that can individually be configured for operation in either ISDN or MPDS mode. In addition, the two channels can be bonded to provide a 128 Kbps data channel. A unique feature of the SDU-7300 is the integral Beam Steering Unit, which provides single coax control and powering of the HGA-6000 and HGA-7000 High Gain Antennas, thus eliminating the installation of a separate BSU.

Another industry first is the inclusion of a mini-server with IP Switch in the SDU, eliminating the need for an external router, and offering optional IP traffic management. It further features an Ethernet hub for network interconnection.

The Ethernet network system is based on the proven Multenet code stack embedded on the latest Atmel ARM9 processor. The contract allows for a 4-phase development cycle and requires completion within 5 months from contract award to delivery of a fully tested pre-production prototype, as well as a full Manufacturing Data pack.
