A local company, ez-IT, that has developed a home PC package based on one of the smallest commercially available PCs. It has achieved so much success in the market that ez-IT is now seeking venture capital to take its business to the next level.

According to Geoff Norman, marketing director at ez-IT, the company is looking to break into the corporate market with its Ezgo PC product, but requires a venture capital partner to ensure this success.

"While our package is ready to go, we are trying to raise additional money in order to provide the funds for the necessary marketing and stocking required to make this a success," says Norman.

"At present we are doing a lot of work in the local government sector and have been promoting our Ezgo PC and screen option in the Western Cape, regarding the provisioning of PCs into schools that either have no power or only have intermittent power."

He says the Ezgo solution is ideal for these schools as a PC can be run from a standard car battery for over 24-hours without having to charge it, and charging can be done by a number of means, such as a car, solar panel or via a bio gas system.

"We have also developed a home PC package called EZ-Home, which comes standard with a number of interfaces that enable us to deliver capabilities such as connecting to a TV for CD and DVD playback, via either an S-Video or RCA port," he says.

"We are in the process of finalising our EZ-Music software that will allow a user to choose an MP3 song via a voice command, and this software thus provides the ability to control household appliances that are linked to the PC through voice command applications."

Norman says that the EZ-Home package is in line with Intel`s vision of the digital home, where consumers are able to enjoy entertainment and multimedia content anywhere, anytime and on any device.

"The best part about the Ezgo PC is that it can operate from a standard 12 Volt DC source, meaning that the EZ-Home device can be taken on holiday and used in a tent or caravan, by simply plugging it into the cigarette lighter socket from the car."
