Strategic management company Fution has launched a training course to teach employees how to manage information security.

Fution will host its first interactive workshop on its information security management training programme, called Diligens, at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria tomorrow.

This is the first Fution course to deal with security concerns within the workplace. The company says security management problems within companies have escalated due to "employees` lack of compliance and the low impact of technology upgrades for classified data".

Pria Chetty, commercial manager at Fution, says the Global Information Security Survey in 2003 shows the role of employees in security management is significant. "A 2002 Vista research report states that 70% of security breaches, involving losses up to $100 000, are perpetuated internally - often by disgruntled employees," she says.

"Our target market for the course is across all sectors. During the workshop, the audience will be addressed by an information security technology expert, a legal expert and a facilitator.

"The facilitator will ensure that the quality control and expectations are met. There will also be an organisational impact session to ensure the knowledge gained during the workshop can be implemented in the work environment," Chetty adds.

The course costs R1 750 and has been approved by the Services SETA.
