Chinese government chooses Verity to boost foreign trade opportunities

Johannesburg, 05 Aug 2004

The International Trade Promotion Council of the People`s Republic of China Ministry of Agriculture has chosen Verity K2 Enterprise (K2E) advanced search and classification software for use on its Web site.

The International Trade Promotion Council is responsible for bringing together corporations in China and around the world to facilitate relationships and trade in agriculture. To do its job more effectively, the council needed to be able to access the information on its Web site quickly and easily.

After a review of available software options, the council chose Verity K2 Enterprise. "We found the search and classification capabilities of K2E to be very impressive. The software is able to serve our needs now and will meet our growing business requirements," says Hong Yang, the International Trade Promotion Council`s deputy secretary general. "In addition, the Unicode Locale feature of the Verity software will allow for spidering and searching of content in both Chinese and English."

Verity`s K2E will also be used by the council to crawl through content dealing with agricultural matters on public Web sites operated by other countries, the United Nations and within China, and to index that information for quick, accurate search. Two sets of customer-defined taxonomies will be created, in Chinese and English, to organise collections of potential import-export agricultural products and trade opportunities for the council.

"The implementation of Verity K2E will allow the International Trade Promotion Council of the Ministry of Agriculture to make better use of information to aid its efforts to foster international agricultural trade," says Garth Wittles, district manager for Verity in SA. "We are confident that Verity K2 Enterprise software will help the council maximise the value of its intellectual capital."
