Beta game crashes servers

The Metal Gear Solid Online beta was meant to launch on 21 April, but the high level of demand caused the Konami servers to crash, says Ars Technica.

The official Web site reads: "We regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.

"As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the US public beta test until we are able to stabilise our server. We would like to apologise for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused."

Trio of servers announced

Data warehouse supplier Teradata has three new servers to answer the need for business intelligence appliances and higher performance in its enterprise data warehouse products, reports IT Pro.

All three new servers run the firm's recently-announced 12.0 database software.

According to Richard Winter, the company's president, Teradata has "rewritten the rules in the industry" by offering appliance-level systems able to deal with the full range of database and query complexity.

Parallels enters Russia

Parallels plans to increase its proceeds in Russia tenfold up to $10 million in the coming three years, reports CNews.

The company stakes claim primarily on corporate customers with server infrastructure.

Moreover, the vendor hopes to strengthen its foothold on the market of virtualisation for user PCs.
