ITWeb, Citigate and concerned IT industry players are launching a site to coordinate information and possible assistance in the search for kidnapped student Leigh Matthews.

Matthews, 21-year-old daughter of First Technology MD Rob Matthews, was kidnapped outside Bond University in Sandton on Friday.

The site, www.findleighmatthews.co.za, will go live tonight and is aimed at coordinating information that may be of help.

IT has already been harnessed in the search for Matthews, with eBlockwatch issuing over 10 000 SMS messages to its subscribers and First Technology staff starting e-mail campaigns in a bid to find her. A 24-hour call centre has also been set up.

Police superintendent Chris Wilken has called on anyone with information to telephone (011) 497-7343, (011) 497-7571 or 082-568-4668.

You can also call or send an SMS to 083 649 9203, 083 647 3696 or 083 628 2368. You can remain anonymous.

IT companies that are able to offer assistance in this and possible future kidnapping cases are invited to submit information and useful links to the site.

Comments and messages of support can also be posted to the site. Any information about the kidnapping can be posted to the site anonymously if necessary and will be passed on to the police.
