IXOS-eCONserver for SAP Data Archiving now available in SA

Johannesburg, 17 May 2002

With the growth of a productive SAP database grows, IXOS Software AG`s IXOS-eCONserver for SAP Data Archiving is set to help companies lower both the cost and risk of meeting data retention requirements. Available in South Africa through Datacentrix, this solution provides fast backup and recovery, cuts administrative costs and decreases the implementation time of SAP upgrades.

Rob Shaw, product marketing manager at Datacentrix says that IXOS-eCONserver is a secure, cost-effective solution for any SAP data archiving requirement. "IXOS-eCONserver for SAP Data Archiving provides the flexibility to decide exactly when and how data is archived.

"The IXOS solution securely stores data on optical media with logical to physical archive management. Once documents have been archived, they can be retrieved within seconds via the SAP user interface or over the Web and viewed in a variety of formats."

SAP outputs archive files generated with standard SAP R/3 tools. The data then passes to IXOS-eCONserver via the SAP ArchiveLink interface where it is securely stored and managed for as long as needed.

Says Shaw: "Data can also be stored as print lists (reports) in the optical archive, which are available online after archiving. Users can access original, archived documents that have links to print list data by using hyperlinks in the print lists. In fact, a local customer has not needed to distribute any hardcopy print lists for the past 10 to 12 months, saving a great deal of money on the time needed for distribution and the high costs of printing reports that may, or may not, be pertinent to a specific user."

The IXOS solution allows simultaneous access to both online and offline data and documents. Archived and online data can be displayed concurrently and in a logical relationship. It also enables the user to define when and how to archive data. "The access options are so flexible that you can archive SAP data as soon as the corresponding business transaction is complete," he explains.
