E-mail archiving versus e-mail backup – they're not the same, your business needs both

E-mail and instant messaging have become a vital part of everyday life and business workings, and because organisations are so reliant on e-mail, without the ability to communicate via these channels, productivity can often grind to a halt. Due to the critical importance to business of e-mail and messaging, both backup and archiving are vital in ensuring business continuity, disaster recovery and legal regulatory compliance.“E-mail storage and management have become important issues in the business space. E-mail backup can happen both at the individual message level and the server level, both of which are important for disaster recovery. Message-level backup stores mail messages from each user for fast restoration of messages that have been corrupted or accidentally deleted. E-mail server backup is needed to restore an organisation's e-mail server in the event that the server is corrupted or destroyed, but in order to do this, a full backup must be available of the entire e-mail server including software, configuration and the database.
