After weeks of undergoing external auditing, MTC passed with flying colours and is celebrating an impressive milestone in Namibia's history.

Windhoek, 19 Jun 2009

MTC can now proudly boast a quality management system that is comparable to the best in the world, after receiving its ISO 9001:2008 accreditation in Windhoek this morning.

MTC's Managing Director, Miguel Geraldes, took receipt of the ISO certificate in the capital on Thursday, 18 June 2009, from the business development manager of Soci'et'e G'en'erale de Surveillance (SGS) Southern Africa. SGS is the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. SGS is recognised as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. With more than 48 000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 1 000 offices and laboratories around the world.

The accreditation means MTC's work processes conform to international quality management standards as they are applied all over the world.

In order for MTC to obtain ISO 9001:2008 accreditation status, the company had to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer needs and applicable regulatory requirements as well as measures to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.

Tim Ekandjo, Chief Human Capital Officer of MTC, commented: “We are obviously very delighted to have received such internationally acclaimed accreditation. ISO accreditation means our quality management system is equal to that of any other company that has received the same accreditation from ISO, be it in Africa, Europe or America.”

The main objective of having obtained this prestigious quality management status as explained by Ekandjo, was to enable MTC to effectively manage its business as well as its customer requirements. The accreditation manifests the commitment of MTC management and staff to maintain world-class management control and product and services integrity.

According to Ekandjo, ISO certification not only distinguishes MTC from its competitors and from other Namibian business entities, but it also shows MTC's commitment to quality and to customers, and that the company has a willingness to work towards improving efficiency.

“It demonstrates the existence of an effective quality management system that satisfies the rigors of an independent, external audit and I hope that our customers, shareholders and suppliers take this accreditation as a stamp of approval of our efficiency,” he said.

MTC's main focus is to ensure quality customer service delivery and the company will do everything in its powers to maintain that competitive advantage, Ekandjo stated.

And in conclusion, Geraldes assured all MTC customers that quality of service and products is what the company lives for and will be felt by all MTC customers whenever they connect with MTC every day, a point qualified and supported by the Mr Lashmar of SGS, when he officially handed over the certificate.
