SAVANT is
the marketing and awareness programme for the South African ICT & Electronics
sector. It is a Public-Private-Partnership between government as represented
through the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and industry.
SAVANT is the vanguard of
technology aimed at raising the awareness of the ICT & Electronics Sector by
marketing the industry locally and internationally. Furthermore it aims to
position the ICT & Electronics Sector in a unique and differentiated way in
order to add dimension to its global competitiveness.
SAVANT was initiated in 2001 with the purpose of firstly defining and
showcasing the domestic ICT & Electronics Sector’s competitive offerings, and
secondly to provide a platform for local companies, to promote their products
and services to both domestic and global markets.
The programme has resulted in the formation of strategic linkages with a number
of government departments, associations (including regional representation) and
academic institutions to ensure access to current developments and expertise
within the sector and most importantly information dissemination.
The broad objectives of the Savant programme are to grow the South African ICT
& Electronics sector by:

global voice of the ICT & Electronics sector in South Africa

Promoting export
opportunities

Promoting investment
opportunities
·
Coordinating an
information portal across the South African ICT & Electronics sector between
both private and public sectors
Through The
DTI’s Foreign Economic Representative network within 36 strategic
markets across the world, SAVANT encourages the exchange of information with
potential partners/consumers, thus ensuring global exposure of South
Africa’s competitive niche products and offerings.
