T-Systems launches 'Wayde's World' Web site as part of its sponsorship initiative

Johannesburg, 01 Sep 2016

T- Systems South Africa recently undertook to sponsor South African track and field champion Wayde van Niekerk. Together with Van Niekerk, T-Systems has launched 'Wayde's World', a Web site with a reality-show feel that will track the daily life of the athlete and generate awareness of him, his athletic progress and his philanthropic work.

The Wayde's World Web site is a live biography Web site that will document every aspect of Van Niekerk's life, from details on his athletics career, such as training times, obstacles and achievements, to his personal life. The site, fully connected to social media platforms, will take the viewer on Van Niekerk's travels with him and provide glimpses into what makes the star athlete tick.

The Web site is the next step in T-Systems' sponsorship of Van Niekerk, and the synergies between the two create a strong foundation for this partnership. Both compete globally yet are committed to South Africa and strive to disrupt their respective markets through dedication and excellence. They also have a passion for humanity and aim to uplift and support individuals to succeed and improve their lives.

Gert Schoonbee, MD at T-Systems South Africa, says: "We know that winning and accomplishing goals takes practice and determination, as well as the backing of an expert team. The sponsorship is particularly meaningful as we are both disrupting the status quo in our fields, creating a shake-up on our respective 'industries'. We want to share Wayde's life experiences and his success, highlighting what makes us so incredibly proud of our talent and country."

Mpumi Nhlapo, Head of T-Systems South Africa's IT Portfolio and Solution Sales, adds: "What we seek to achieve with Wayde's World is to highlight the individual components of Wayde's life, the influence of the people that surround him and his dedication to success - everything that contributes to making him such an outstanding athlete. Through Wayde's World, Van Niekerk's achievements will be documented and shared, giving the public a greater view into the work and influences such as family, personal values and goals that contribute to his success."

The Wayde's World Web site will not only cover the champion athlete's life, both on and off the field, but will also track the progress of his initiative, the Wayde Dreamer Foundation, supported by T-Systems.

Schoonbee explains: "T-Systems has always been keenly active in improving people's quality of life, both through social development and through technology. Wayde's founding of the Wayde Dreamer Foundation resonated with us on this level and spoke of our mutual interest in promoting the success of local talent. We hope that exposure of this initiative through Wayde's World will also generate interest and support for this cause."

Wayde's World is available at www.waydesworld.co.za, Twitter @WaydesWorldSA, Facebook Waydes World SA and Instagram @waydesworldsa.
