Obsidian first trainer to offer course focusing on administrators moving from Windows to Linux

Johannesburg, 06 Jul 2005

Obsidian Systems` training division has announced the availability of Red Hat`s RH035 Linux Essentials for Windows Professionals training course in SA.

Aimed at system administrators making the transition from a Windows environment to that of Linux, the course provides them with the skills required to begin working with the open source operating system via Red Hat Linux Enterprise.

Says Terri Bird, operations manager for Obsidian Systems` training division: "With the final goal of achieving their RHCE qualification, this course will prepare professionals who have been working in a strictly Windows environment to comfortably make the switch to open source. The typical student will be a Windows technician who prefers to manage servers using a graphical user interface. Based on their existing knowledge of systems administration, the RH035 course is focused on applying those skills when utilising Red Hat Enterprise Linux solutions."

She explains that this is a comprehensive course, but is essentially for beginners.

"This course is aimed primarily at systems administrators," continues Bird. "It includes lessons on installing Linux, learning to use the Linux command line interface, as well as graphical user environments, configuring networks using the open source operating system, understanding the Linux file system and customisation of the Linux environment, among others."

"The course will be available in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, starting this month," says Bird. "All the lecturers are Red Hat certified and the RH035 is an official Red Hat course. The course stretches over five days. The relatively short amount of time required means that busy professionals do not need to take too much time away from work in order to attend training."

Registration is now open for RH035 and package deals are available. For more information on the course and enrolment, contact Obsidian Systems training division on 0860 4 LINUX or on the Web at www.obsidian.co.za.

"Graduates of this course are encouraged to progress to the RH131 Red Hat Linux System Administration course to further their learning of systems administration on the Linux platform," concludes Bird.
