ForgeAhead, in partnership with the Department of Communications, recognised the 2005 African ICT Achievers Award winners at an event held at Gallagher Estate, Midrand, on Saturday.
The annual event recognises top achievers in the African ICT sector.
Speaking at the event, communications minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri said the South African government has committed itself to the growth of the ICT sector, as it is "vital for the success of the country".
"The ICT African Achievers Awards helps to stimulate business in ICT service and delivery, and encourages a high level of entrepreneurship. The sector has also experienced a 6% growth rate. The awards are special for highlighting the success of the industry," she said.
Matsepe-Casaburri also praised African governments that have made an effort to adopt the NEPAD vision of using ICT to fight poverty and face socio-economic challenges.
