Brazil hosts governance forum

Representatives of government, the private sector, non-governmental organisations, the Internet community and the media will converge in Rio de Janeiro for the second meeting of the Internet Governance Forum, to be held from 12 to 15 November, reports eGovmonitor.

The conference will focus on the overall issue of "Internet Governance for Development". Five main themes will be addressed: access, diversity, openness, security and critical Internet resources.

Around 2 000 participants from over 100 countries are expected to attend. There will be plenary sessions, open meetings and thematic workshops to discuss specific issues and share best practices.

IT governance meets business demands

To support the growing business demands related to IT governance, the non-profit, international professional association ISACA has developed a new certification: Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), according to TechWhack.com.

It is supported by the IT Governance Institute (ITGI) and built on ITGI's intellectual property and input from subject matter experts from around the world.

The CGEIT designation focuses on the five areas of IT governance: strategic alignment, resource management, risk management, performance measurement and value delivery. It is designed for professionals who have a significant management, advisory or assurance role relating to the governance of IT.

Philippines embraces IT governance

The level of awareness and the interest to comply with regulatory and IT governance issues are high in the Philippines, states Inquirer.net, but only a few companies are practicing it.

"The awareness and the interest to comply are high. But on the actual compliance, they're just starting. We don't know the extent of compliance," said Aileen Judan-Jiao, country services executive of IBM Global Technology Services Philippines.

Introducing a suite of IT governance services, framework and tools, IBM executives said the "highly regulated" industries are expected to initially adopt IT governance, since they are now under pressure to become more visible and accountable to stakeholders and customers.
