BI meets community platform

Jaspersoft, an open source BI provider, has unveiled JasperForge, a next-generation community platform that it says will support the open source business intelligence (BI) community, reports Fox Business.

With millions of downloads, tens of thousands of registered members and hundreds of JasperForge projects, the Jaspersoft open source community is one of the largest in the world and has been on the front lines as requirements have changed.

Jaspersoft's original Forge was announced two years ago this month, over which time its community has grown more than ten-fold.

Business Objects enhances BI

Business Objects has released two of its marquee BI tools, which the company says will deliver more functionality for less money for midmarket customers, says Search SAP.

Edge 3.0 has all the capabilities of the enterprise-level product, Enterprise XI 3.0, including mobile BI access.

Crystal Reports Server 2008, the company's reporting platform, allows customers to securely view, print, share and schedule through Microsoft Office applications. New, concurrent licensing models make this software accessible to a greater number of users.

Wal-Mart chooses Oracle

Wal-Mart has selected Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition Plus to provide comprehensive data intelligence and analysis from across Wal-Mart's operations, says PR Newswire.

Wal-Mart plans to use the system to administer its logistics, transportation, category management, finance, human resources, real estate, merchandising, store and club operations and other business resources.

Information technology has long been regarded as a core strength that enabled Wal-Mart to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
