Kiosk transactions to sky-rocket

North American consumers continue to embrace self-service technology, as transactions at self-service kiosks will surpass $775 billion in 2009, states Business Wire.

This will grow to over $1.6 trillion by 2013, according to a new research study conducted by the IHL Group.

"We expect continued double-digit growth in the revenue generated by self-service transactions, particularly as retailers, restaurants, and transportation authorities offer more devices in more locations," said Lee Holman, lead retail analyst of the IHL Group.

Self service model entices advertisers

Self-service classified ad building is nothing new to most advertisers, but now newspapers are eyeing the same model for their display advertising clients, reports News&Tech.

A handful of big-name publishers have already launched display self-service, tapping Wave2 Media Solutions Web-based iPublish suite of tools to anchor their offerings.

Some of the publications include the Houston Chronicle, the Virginian-Pilot, the Orange County, Register and New York Times Regional Media Group.

Juniper halts ATM security discussion

Juniper Networks has barred one of the company's security researchers from discussing security flaws in ATMs after an ATM maker threatened legal action, says PC World.

Staff security researcher Barnaby Jack had been set to deliver a 30 July talk entitled 'Jackpotting automated teller machines, at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas.

But Jack abruptly asked conference organisers to pull the talk, according to Black Hat Director Jeff Moss. The talk has also been pulled from Black Hat's sister conference, Defcon, he added.
