Nigerian Banks receive Postilion's African Banking Awards

Outstanding achievement of InterSwitch recognised by Postilion
By S1
Johannesburg, 01 Aug 2008

Postilion, a leading provider of integrated solutions for payments and self-service banking and a division of S1 Corporation, today announced that InterSwitch, a Postilion reseller, and five Nigerian banks, received awards recognising outstanding achievements. The awards were presented by Deon van Biljon, senior VP and GM of Postilion Africa, during last night's Techno-Interactive Conference gala dinner held at the Metropolitan in Calabar, Nigeria.

InterSwitch, a Postilion reseller in West Africa since 2002, received an award for outstanding achievement. The basis for this award is their visionary approach in introducing the latest EFT technology available globally, and their professionalism in doing so.

Twenty-two banks in Nigeria now process electronic transactions on a Postilion platform. These banks are linked to the central Postilion switch operated by InterSwitch, where inter-bank transaction switching takes place.

During the gala dinner a further five awards were made to some of Nigeria's leading banks.

* Award for Adoption. This award goes to the bank that has shown the greatest adoption of electronic funds transfer products. Criteria used are the number of Postilion modules licensed, implemented and generating live transactions. The winner in this category was United Bank for Africa.
* Award for Growth. This award goes to the bank that has seen the highest percentage growth in transaction volumes over the past year. The winner in this category was Intercontinental Bank.
* Award for Achievement. This award goes to the bank that has shown the greatest improvement in ranking based on transaction volumes in the past year. The winner in this category was Bank PHB - Platinum Habib Bank.
* Award for Operations. This award goes to the bank that has consistently demonstrated professional operations management. The winner in this category was Guaranty Trust Bank.
* Award for Innovation. This award goes to the bank whose innovation achieved outstanding results. The winner in this category was First Bank of Nigeria. They were the first bank to license Postilion and perform "on-us" and inter-bank transactions in the Nigerian market.

"Through these awards, Postilion wanted to recognise the tremendous achievements in building state-of-the-art infrastructure in the Nigerian payments market," said Van Biljon. "InterSwitch's achievements have been considerable and their Techno-Interactive Conference, which focused on chip and PIN and loyalty cards, is a further example of their constant drive for improvement and innovation. Nigeria is an example for other African countries to follow and Postilion is proud that its solutions have been widely adopted as the platform of choice for so many Nigerian banks."
