Boxall`s CC, the South African distributor of Norway`s Norman data security products, says Norman Virus Control (NVC) is the only locally supported anti-virus solution specifically for Linux.
The company has just launched a strong marketing drive to target the local market.
Consultant Peter Boxall says Norman has developed a new command-line scanner for Linux that is compatible with all major distributions. "NVC for Linux is a powerful tool for a Linux administrator, enabling full control deployment of scans within the native Linux management".
In addition to Linux, says Boxall, NVC provides anti-virus solutions for about ten other platforms, including the Windows and OS/2 operating systems. "NVC is still not well known in South Africa, although it has 16 million users worldwide."
NVC combines advanced signature scanning technology with analysis and macro certification techniques to block known and unknown viruses.
NVC`s virus detection capabilities have earned Norman awards for detecting 100% of viruses in circulation at the time tests were conducted by Virus Bulletin magazine. NVC has received the 100% award 20 times since it was introduced in 1998.
Boxall says NVC compares very favourably with other major anti-virus software solutions. "NVC requires fewer system resources, is faster in scanning disks and removing viruses, has simpler user interfaces, records fewer false alarms, and is more stable than most competitors."
