EQO Communications has released a mobile instant messaging (IM) service for Skype, according to a press release.

The software is available free as a Beta product to customers via the EQO Web site and supports more than 40 handset models from vendors such as Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson.

AOL unveils blog, IM link

 

Computer Business Review reports AOL is to launch a publishing tool that will link a user`s blogging activities with their IM. The user`s buddy list will be pinged when the user posts a new blog entry.

The tool is part of AOL`s strategy to combat increasing competitive threats from new social networks, such as the popular MySpace.com.

SMS promotes teen books

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in the US will use Flytxt technology to launch the Kiss & Tell mobile club, a cellphone text messaging program promoting a collection of teen book titles, says TMCNet.com.

The SMS-based promotions will include sweepstakes and giveaways, polls, style tips, insider gossip, and sneak peeks.

"Text messaging is such a significant part of today`s teen culture that it is natural to incorporate it into our marketing efforts," said, Tina McIntyre, associate director of marketing, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

Deaf woman text messaging when hit by train

Deaf beauty queen Texan Tara McAvoy was walking along a railroad track from her home to her mother`s workplace, text-messaging family and friends, when a train struck her and killed her, CNN reports.

It is thought that she was so focused on her SMSing that she did not notice the train approaching.
