Google releases Reader gadget

Google Reader fans and RSS junkies would enjoy seeing the new Google Reader gadget for Google Desktop, says Techtree.

In December last year, Google had brought the Gmail gadget for Google Desktop for Gmail lovers.

Google Desktop users need to have Google Desktop 5 or a higher version to install the Google Reader gadget. The RSS junkies can now stay updated with all of their most loved RSS feeds without firing up the Web browser.

Eco-gadgets gain popularity

Japanese incentives for ecological gadgets are helping lift electronics sales, according to ministry and industry data, in what may be an early sign of some recovery in a recession-battered economy, reports Los Angeles Times.

Under a government stimulus package, people who buy energy-efficient flat-panel TVs, refrigerators and air conditioners accumulate 'eco-points', which the government promises will convert to discounts or trade-ins for products that have yet to be announced.

Despite the mystery of what the perks may be, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said electronics sales were up 50% during the week after the 'eco-point' system started, compared to the same period last year.

Snapdragon gadgets in the pipeline

More than 30 products using Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon chipset are already in the pipeline, the chipmaker has revealed, states ZDNet Asia.

The company claims the 3G chipset, which incorporates graphics capabilities as well as a CPU, will enable low-power, always-on devices - hybrid laptop-come-smartphone devices Qualcomm has dubbed 'smartbooks'.

The Snapdragon chipset can also be used for smartphones as well as smartbooks, however, and both types of hardware are now under development, according to Qualcomm.
