InterSystems` high-performance Cach'e database will be available on the Mac OS X platform early in 2003. A favourite technology choice for developers building innovative transaction processing applications on Windows, Unix and Linux platforms, post-relational Cach'e features an advanced object database as well as robust SQL and multidimensional database engine.

"With Cach'e, Macintosh developers will finally have the ability to build and deploy massively scalable, high-performance applications across even the largest enterprise," says Henry Adams, country manager of InterSystems South Africa.

"Cach'e is the database software professional developers select when they`re creating new Web applications that push the curve for transaction processing performance and scalability - applications for which legacy relational databases simply can`t deliver optimum results because of their static two-dimensional design."

Industry experts view the synergy between Cach'e and the Macintosh platform as likely to deliver positive results.

"Mac developers are noted for delivering user-friendly, object-oriented applications, especially in the creative arts and education, but difficulties in accessing scalable relational databases are a prime cause of the Mac`s inability to take its fair share of corporate desktops," says Wayne Kernochan, managing VP of US market research firm Aberdeen Group.

"By using the `post-relational` architecture of Cach'e, which enables developers to build both SQL and object-based systems that are high-performance on an enterprise scale, these developers can provide applications that link Mac end-users` creativity with enterprise customer and supply chain data for competitive advantage innovation."

Going far beyond the typically limited feature sets of database products currently available for Mac OS X, Cach'e provides the functionality needed for enterprise applications. This includes the performance and scalability critical to the success of volatile, time-sensitive Web transaction processing systems. Cach'e also provides advanced rapid application development functionality for the creation of highly complex applications within tight deadlines.

Highlights of the Mac-based version will include:

* Real-time data analytics - New transactional bitmap index technology provides the query performance benefits of advanced indexing technology with update performance equal to that of traditional indexes. Cach'e is the first database provider to deliver real-time data analytics for transaction processing.

* Cach'e Web services - Built-in support for Web services, without requiring a separate application server or other complications. Cach'e is fully compatible with both .Net and Java frameworks for Web services.

* Cach'e Enterprise Java - Another breakthrough in database technology, Cach'e automates Bean Managed Persistence, making it easy for developers to work with Java Enterprise Edition while enabling very high performance.

* Cach'e Enterprise Cache Protocol (ECP) - Including a new distributed concurrency engine and support for massive distributed cache memory, ECP delivers top-tier performance and scalability for multi-server configurations.
