Acer unveils new notebook range

Johannesburg, 11 Jun 2004

Acer has launched its new range of TravelMate notebooks, featuring the latest technology available on the market today.

"Acer remains a technology leader in the mobile sector with a string of early introductions and first-to-market awards for high-end products including tablet PCs and Centrino mobile offerings. The latest TravelMate range is technology refresh that incorporates the latest the market has to offer," says Gary De Menezes, commercial director at Acer.

Acer`s new TravelMate range includes a broad spectrum of notebooks, ranging from ultra-portable through to complete desktop replacements, to suit every customer`s needs.

The Acer TravelMate 2000 series is Acer`s entry-level Intel Celeron Mobile processor offering and is aimed at self-employed professionals and users from small, medium and large enterprises who require a reliable notebook with full multimedia functionality and excellent connectivity features.

The new Acer TravelMate 2500 Series notebook family is aimed at the SoHo and SMEs, and combines Pentium 4 desktop processing power and multimedia functions in a compact work tool that is ideal for mobile business users and professionals.

Acer`s new TravelMate 6000 notebook series, based on Intel Mobile Centrino technology, is Acer`s mid-market Centrino offering and is designed to satisfy professionals, freelancers and SME employees looking for a compact, lightweight alternative to desktop PCs.

The TravelMate 8000 is Acer`s latest high-end notebook offering with the latest Intel Centrino mobile technology, ideal for power users looking for high-performance, high-mobility and high-security.

Acer has introduced SignalUp technology in its TravelMate 6000 and 8000 ranges, which features a new antenna design that greatly enhances wireless performance. WiFi and CCX validation offer further wireless compatibility and security.

Also released earlier this year, Acer`s two new Tablet PC notebook offerings, the ultra-portable TravelMate C111 and C302Mxi, are based on Intel Centrino Mobile technology.

The C111, the entry-level Tablet PC offering from Acer, is a top of the range notebook for power users. An upgrade from the C100, sporting Bluetooth connectivity, the C111 is a third-generation tablet PC driven by Intel Centrino Mobile technology using Intel`s home-grown 855GM graphics processor.

Acer`s new TravelMate C300 convertible Tablet PC (TMC302Mxi) offers users long battery life, a swivel 14.1-inch XGA LCD screen, a full size keyboard, integrated gigabit LAN networking functionality and a host of connectivity options to suit power users` needs "out-of-the-box".

The TMC302Mxi offers more functionality than any other notebook on the market and gives Acer`s channel partners a distinct advantage over the competition. The size, performance and features of the TMC302Mxi suit a broad set of customers looking to take advantage of the latest mobile wireless technology.

"The growth in our notebooks sales remains strong in SA. What`s particularly encouraging is that we`re one of the few notebook manufacturers with a notebook range spanning entry-level to high-end," concludes De Menezes.
