The safest place for data

Johannesburg, 20 Jul 2004

The use of high-end digital recording systems is widespread and producers need to know that recorded performances will not be lost due to hard disk failure or corruption. According to Lloyd Muchaka, storage product manager at Axiz, there is only one chance to capture that `golden take` and once done, the recording artist does not want to lose it.

Protection against disk failure in modern recording environments is a prerequisite. Potential loss of a recording arising from data corruption is a very costly consideration. StorCase`s hard disk drive enclosures provide a heavy-duty solution by protecting against disk errors brought about by heat exposure, rotational vibration or power surges.

Artists take it for granted that their recorded performances will be securely captured and stored in digital format. It therefore becomes obligatory for producers and studio managers to accept the responsibility for what happens to data once stored on disk. "It is here," says Muchaka, "that StorCase Technology can make a difference. Disk enclosures are the final loop in the equation to ensure data integrity."

StorCase Technology`s Data Silo DS321 FireWire enclosure was created to provide a durable, 2-bay housing for 3.5-inch fixed or removable IDE devices interfacing to FireWire 800 hosts. A unique product in that it can be used either as a desktop or rack-mount enclosure. The DS321 comes standard with two StorCase Data Express DE110 removable drive carriers pre-integrated into each of its bays.

"The DS321`s rack-oriented bays are intended for multimedia-type implementations. It is also non-proprietary and economical, making it the A/V Pro`s choice in FireWire enclosures. This chassis is perfect for editing audio and/or video," says Muchaka.

The DS321 boasts key features such as a fan and audible alarm that can be disabled for environments requiring minimal background noise such as a recording studio. A rugged steel construction protects the drive in the event of physical trauma. Finally, the DS321 also exceeds rotational vibration and heat dissipation requirements of today`s high RPM drives.
