Sun delivers V240 server optimised for SAP NetWeaver Rapid Installer

Johannesburg, 12 Aug 2004

The global partnership between Sun Microsystems and SAP has enabled Sun to have a special configured system for the SAP NetWeaver Rapid Installer.

SAP NetWeaver Rapid Installer enables companies to quickly install and deploy SAP NetWeaver front-end components. The wizard-based Rapid Installer cuts down installation and deployment time from days to hours, giving businesses a jump-start in developing their IT environments - and dramatically reducing the cost of technology implementation. Rapid Installer also allows companies to access critical business functions quicker, using a portal to access different systems through a single interface.

As a global SAP Technology partner, Sun offers hardware specifically configured for the needs of SAP NetWeaver Rapid Installer to deliver an ideal price-performance ratio, says Alan Smit, ERP solutions architect at Sun Microsystems.

"We firmly believe that our customers should spend time focused on their business and not the business of technology. Addressing the reality that success software utilisation - particularly in business-critical environment - needs to be supported by an appropriate hardware environment, we have introduced a pre-configured and pre-tested Sun Fire V240 server for this application," explains Smit.

Equipped with dual 64-bit SPARC processors, the Sun Fire V240 comes with Sun Solaris 9 and Sun Java Enterprise System, pre-installed on customer request. It features enhanced security through separate access paths for users, back-end and support; and full redundancy for CPU, memory, network storage and power; with an additional hardware SSL option. Furthermore, online support is accessible through the Advanced Lights Out Manager.

Smit concludes: "The Sun and SAP partnership guarantees that companies deploying the SAP NetWeaver Rapid Installer will reap the benefits of price, performance and reliability from a complete system that includes the software and hardware environments."
