Toyota SA becomes first HP Itanium blade server user in SA

Durban, 11 Jun 2007

Motor manufacturer, Toyota SA Motors, is the first company in South Africa to implement HP Itanium blade server technology, capable of running both Microsoft Windows and Unix applications.

Toyota SA was assisted on the project by IT solutions and service provider, Datacentrix, implementing four blade servers.

According to Tony Benschop, Manager IT Infrastructure (Technical) at Toyota SA, the objective of the project was to standardise the organisation's SAP systems on HPUX, with its current development environment running on Microsoft Windows.

"We opted for HP Itanium servers specifically due to the fact that our SAP production environment already runs on Itanium," Benschop explains. "Currently, we are temporarily using them as application servers for our SAP system, while restructuring our production environment."

Toyota SA partnered with Datacentrix for the roll-out of this project due to a long standing relationship, which includes the implementation of the organisation's Intel blade solutions, assisting Toyota SA in benefiting through centralised backup and easier management and deployment of applications.

According to Deon Grobler, Datacentrix account manager, Datacentrix's strong technical competence experience and solid partnership with HP have ensured the company's successful relationship with Toyota SA.

Earlier this year, Datacentrix garnered several HP channel awards, including the title for "Enterprise Reseller with the Highest Revenue across All Business Units". The company also claimed top position as the reseller holding the most certifications and showed the best growth of enterprise resellers in the personal systems group, industry standard servers, business-critical systems and imaging and printing group categories.

"These awards reflect Datacentrix's strong positioning within the local market and are a significant endorsement of the value the company brings to its partnership with HP," says Grobler. "Our focused approach and heavy skills investment over the past few years enabled us to enjoy continued success in growing our local customer base."
