A new Web site, SA: The Good News, has been launched to boost efforts to eliminate negative perceptions about SA.

SA: The Good News (SAGN), an independent initiative, and its sponsor, First National Bank, launched the new site, www.sagoodnews.co.za, in Johannesburg this week.

The directors of SAGN, Stuart Pennington and Brett Bowes, believe the site will provide a balance to the negative perceptions about the progress made in SA since the new dispensation.

The Web site echoes two books by the pair: "South Africa: The Good News" written in 2002 and its sequel, "South Africa: More Good News".

"The SAGN Web site will be a crucial information resource for people from all walks of South African life. We live in rapidly changing times, so having access to accurate and positive facts regarding developments in SA is important for anyone who wants to present a balanced image of the country," says Pennington.

The Web site will provide daily, weekly and archived good news updates to subscribers and will contain information about positive developments taking place within the country. It will contain news and contact information for South Africans abroad, and provide information and opinion on national debates and matters of national importance.

"As a Proudly South African company, we've been proud to be associated with SAGN since their inception," says Derek Carstens, brand director at First National Bank. "During that time, the project has gained momentum and the self-image of SA as a country has changed for the better.

"The campaign is based on facts about the country, not suppositions or perceptions. The ongoing dissemination of the facts about SA will have a more positive and lasting impact on perception in the long-term. We are sure that the Web site will continue that momentum and give our good news a global reach."
