A small group of professionals has created a Web site dedicated to providing technical help in IT.

The site, Techsupport.za.net, is a forum monitored by around nine operators, and allows users to register and then seek advice on technology issues ranging from hardware problems to programming questions.

"We want to inspire younger people [interested in IT], and help them get up-and-running, but also make help available to IT professionals," says spokesperson Inarie Dreyer.

She comments that Unix-based network and hardware issues have proven to be most topical.

"The site utilises the open source idea of helping other people out."

She adds that techsupport.za.net aims to secure sponsorship in order to host training days in future.

Hosted by Wolfatek Solutions, the site claims to have received over 27 000 hits in the first three weeks, and features information on 28 topics.

Dreyer hopes to maintain it as a local site for South African technicians.
