BusinessMap creates BEE investment guide

Research and publishing firm BusinessMap Foundation has introduced a Web site to make the codes of good practice on black economic empowerment (BEE) easily understandable.

The site, sponsored by the British High Commission in SA, targets investors and company decision-makers who might be uncertain of the meaning of the codes.

The site will be revised as the codes are changed. It will also introduce readers to BEE scorecards, assisting them to grasp this aspect of the codes.

The site allows users to establish whether they are categorised as a small, micro or large business, and points them to the correct section.

BusinessMap Foundation director Janet King says SA needs foreign investment and BEE should not prevent that in any way.

"This uncertainty will be even more strongly felt among foreign investors who are not part of the day-to-day discussions on empowerment in SA," says King.

"We have tried to present the BEE codes in simple English with definitions of the technical terms. Ideally we would like users to feel they are dealing with easily understood, non-technical writing where possible," she says.

"The British High Commission has sponsored the design of the site and preparation of the content. They have not supplied anything other than money. It is not possible for us to share the level of their monetary sponsorship," concludes King.
