Pilots get online training

CAE received US Federal Aviation Administration approval to deliver the pilot training ground school for the Eurocopter AS350 helicopter through a CAE Simfinity e-Learning programme, reports Avionics.

The programme will enable pilots to reduce their time at the flight-training centre for both initial and recurrent training.

Pilots who complete the AS350 e-learning programme via distance learning will go through a brief pre-simulator review and qualification exam and then proceed to training sessions in the CAE 3000 Series helicopter mission simulator located at a CAE training location in Phoenix.

PC training for the blind

Blind and partially sighted people in Devon and Cornwall are to be offered computer training, giving them the skills needed to gain employment, access education, and use services to help them live independently, says Mid Devon Star.

Workshops will be run by national charity Action for Blind People (Action), funded by a grant from Big Lottery Reaching Communities.

Action's team of experts will provide advice about access to computers, and other forms of assistive technology to help with daily living, employment and communication.

Doctors urged to update methods

General practitioners should be trained on how to deal with patients who access healthcare information online, according to a report released this week, states Healthcare Republic.

The Nuffield Council on Bioethic's report on personalised healthcare also called on guidance bodies to give more support to doctors by providing them with information to help them explain treatment decisions to patients.

“Some patients will be well informed but others will not have gained additional information on different visits,” it said.
