Internet Security Systems (ISS) today announced that Internet Security Systems` R&D - the renowned X-Force - has issued its latest Threat Insight Quarterly (Threat IQ) report featuring the most pressing security issues surrounding voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
Under the title "VOIP - Transforming Business, Inviting Attack", this ISS Threat IQ Report is based on security intelligence from the ISS X-Force research and development team and insight from ISS`s global Managed Security Services organisation. It focuses on the VOIP technology, explains potential vulnerabilities and security concerns and lists best practices for ensuring effective VOIP protection within an enterprise. The report is intended to arm the security professional with the essential knowledge needed to identify the security risks associated with VOIP.
The report covers several aspects such as the history of VOIP, the inherent exposures and threats, the challenges and the solutions. It concludes with nine steps for the security specialist to mitigate risk in the VOIP network.
Because VOIP has the power to transform telephony as we know it, ISS`s security experts are of the opinion that VOIP security concerns cannot be underestimated. They believe that threats will rise as the technology grows in popularity. If not properly secured and monitored, the use of VOIP technology may allow attackers to tap into an organisation`s infrastructure, causing various issues from the loss of VOIP functionality to the compromise of confidential information and identity theft.
