Telkom names new CEO

Johannesburg, 17 Aug 2005

Telkom has named Transnet group executive Leapeetswe "Papi" Molotsane as its new CEO. He takes over from Sizwe Nxasana.

Molotsane`s appointment is effective from 1 September. The duration of his contract has not been finalised, but it is likely to be three to five years, he says. His package will become a matter of public record once it has been finalised.

Molotsane has impeccable business leadership experience, Telkom announced at a media briefing in Pretoria this afternoon. The incoming CEO has the skills and leadership style the board believes are required to deliver on Telkom`s growth strategy in a competitive telecoms environment, noted Telkom chairperson Nomazizi Mtshotshisa.

Molotsane (46) told ITWeb that although he has no previous telecoms experience, Telkom has the internal capacity to address this issue. He brings the ability to work with a team to develop a strategy plan, with leadership as his strong point, he says.

In response to questions on how he would face the challenge posed by the second national operator, Molotsane said he would consult with teams within Telkom and only then would he be able to communicate a plan of action.
