France bans phones for children

The French government is planning new laws that will make it illegal to advertise mobile phones in a manner designed to appeal to children aged under 12 years, reports Cellular News.

The new regulations were announced last week, by environment minister Jean-Louis Borloo.

Borloo also plans to seek powers to make it illegal to sell mobile phones designed to be used by children aged six or younger.

Nokia has revealed it is ending production of its N810 WiMax Edition, the only model in its range that supports mobile broadband technology, writes Total Telecom.

The world's number one handset maker issued a statement, saying the N810 Internet tablet had reached the "end of its life cycle", despite only launching in April 2008.

However, Nokia was quick to point out that it is not necessarily abandoning WiMax altogether.
