Xerox, McAfee, security and you

By Cheryl Otstott, Social Media Project Manager, Forums and At Your Service Blog at Xerox.

Johannesburg, 12 Mar 2018

Recently Xerox presented an article with announcement about the Common Criteria Certification for Security achieved by the AltaLink series of printers / multifunction devices. This week Xerox looks at the security provided by the partnership between Xerox and McAfee, says Cheryl Otstott, Social Media Project Manager, Forums and At Your Service Blog at Xerox. As you know, information security is an ongoing and ever-evolving process. Xerox and McAfee know this and that is why they have teamed up to design a security system to help companies protect against threats to their confidential data.

By integrating embedded McAfee software into Xerox technology, the two companies use a whitelisting method that allows only approved files to run on the Xerox multifunction printers, offering significantly more protection than traditional black listing tactics. McAfee's whitelisting detects unauthorised attempts to write, read or add to protected files. If an attempt is detected an alert in the form of an e-mail is sent to the machine administrator or any designated person's e-mail address, you decide who receives the alerts.

Another resource is the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (McAfee ePO) used with the Xerox CentreWare Web Software and Xerox MPS tool set monitoring of your devices can be done from a dashboard on a single console of your choice. For more information on ePolicy Orchestrator, go to the McAfee Web site.

Security is also dependent on you. It is important to keep up with news of threats and understand what you need to know and watch for when it comes to securing your data. Xerox has many resources to help you meet your security goals. It knows that the security of your information is important to you and it is important to Xerox. Xerox will provide you with all the tools it can to safeguard your information, but it is up to you and/or your IT staff to utilise these tools. Please subscribe to or check Xerox's Security Web page periodically to keep updated on any new security information. Information is posted as required and will be product specific or generic depending on the issue. Please take a look at this video that explains more about the partnership between McAfee and the Xerox.

Remember knowledge is power when it comes to security. Some resources to review are the Xerox Product Security Frequently Asked Questions page, and the Partnering to Protect What's Yours Web page. There are many links to Webinars, videos and articles and whitepapers on this page. Please review all these resources to stay up to date with security features, updates, upgrades and tips.

Xerox's goal is to keep your information secure. Online Support also has information about security. You can search on "security" to find out what you need to do or what you can do to protect your information. Please look over the information provided and contact Xerox with any issues, questions or concerns. In this digital data age, security is everyone's responsibility, do your part to secure your important data.
