ISACA SA and (ISC)2 Gauteng Chapter partner for success

Johannesburg, 19 Feb 2019

ISACA South Africa continues to collaborate with professional bodies and organisations that foster common values and strive for similar outcomes to help realise the positive potential of technology.

In line with ISACA South Africa's 2018-2020 strategy, the chapter recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the (ISC)2 Gauteng Chapter, at a Johannesburg regional event hosted at Santam's premises, in Sandton, Johannesburg on 31 January 2019. The event was attended by 40 guests and co-ordinated by ISACA South Africa Vice-President, Kenneth Palliam.

Palliam welcomed the guest speaker of the evening, Sanjay Charavanapavan, Managing Director and Consultant at Excellenta, and Education Coordinator at ISACA South Africa. Charavanapavan spoke on the topic: "Ten keys for winning as a security or risk manager in your organisation".

ISACA South Africa President, Arlene-Lynn Volmink, proceeded to open the signing ceremony by sharing an introduction to ISACA, the South Africa Chapter, and the purpose, promise and strategy of the organisation. Terence Fogarty, President of the (ISC)2 Gauteng Chapter, then introduced the organisation and provided an overview of the (ISC)2 Gauteng Chapter, its objective, events and plans for the year.

Volmink said: "We are very excited to collaborate with the (ISC)2 Gauteng chapter as it allows both organisations to engage a broader network to creatively address both the opportunities and challenges facing government and industry in the technology and innovation space in South Africa."

The partnership between the two organisations has been a long time coming, since the organisations share common interests and both organisations focus on creating a skilled and connected community through networking opportunities, educational resources and tailored events.

Fogarty stated: "We, as (ISC)2 Gauteng, are excited to have joined forces with ISACA South Africa. We have been in discussions for a while and it's great to see the fruits of our labour pay off by having an MOU in place between the organisations. This is of benefit for both communities as it allows us to combine our time, effort and resources to ensure higher quality events, materials, training and initiatives with similar themes of IT security, IT audit, IT risk and IT governance between the both of our organisations. We plan to host joint sessions throughout the year and, together, continuously look for the best opportunities to provide our members and communities."
