Public service and administration minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi has been targeted by hackers who posted a fake post on popular social network, Facebook.

On Tuesday, the ministry warned members of the public to be cautious about responding to posts on the minister's personal Facebook account, saying it is a scam.

In a statement, the ministry for public service and administration said the account had been hacked and individuals had posted an update, which has since been deleted, on the minister's timeline promising a grant from the United Kingdom-based European Development Fund.

Another government official's personal Facebook account has been compromised.

The ministry said the body funds development projects such as education, rural development, employment creation and agriculture, among others, in Southern Africa.

"Minister Ramatlhodi warns social network users to guard against criminals posing as public figures with intention to deceive unsuspecting and vulnerable persons over promises of opportunities to make easy money," said the ministry.

Last week, the Department of Communications also warned the public of a fake Facebook account that had been created using incorrect details of communications minister Faith Muthambi.
