ISACA SA announces 2019 recognition award winners

The ISACA South Africa Chapter has announced the winners for the 2019 ISACA SA third Annual Member Awards. The awards are the most coveted and highest honours bestowed by the chapter on individuals in the appreciation of their active roles in the field of technology, information and cyber security, governance, risk and innovation in South Africa.

The purpose of the awards are to:

  • Recognise and reward excellence and professionalism;
  • Attract and retain high-calibre individuals in the profession; and
  • Motivate members towards innovation and continuous improvement.

Winston Hayden, Max Blecher and Tichaona Zororo are past presidents of the ISACA South Africa Chapter and the awards bearing their names are testament to the leadership, innovation and excellence displayed by individuals through their passion, involvement and commitment to the purpose and promise of ISACA and, more specifically, to the work of the ISACA South Africa Chapter.

2019 Annual Chapter Award winners were:

Winston Hayden Leadership Award: Carolynn Chalmers (Executive Director, Candor Governance)

Carolynn Chalmers’ personal purpose is to enable ethical business. She has been a supporter of the ISACA SA Chapter for a good couple of years and in many aspects. She has been a conference speaker at multiple annual conferences as well as contributed to hosting various workshops. The work she is doing is taking South Africa to the next level – she is well known for her work in the areas of: King III, King IV, corporate governance, IT governance, risk and compliance; information governance, information privacy and information security; IT legacy and digital transformation; project governance and project management; and ISO standards development.

Max Blecher Innovation Award: Anton Bouwer (Director at BST Technology)

The Innovation Award is given to an individual and/or organisation that has developed fresh new insights, developments, tools or techniques to promote the field of IS risk management, audit and assurance, governance, security and cyber security.

The Tichaona Zororo Excellence Award: Muvhango Livhusha (IT Auditor at Intellectual property commission (CIPC)

The Tichaona Zororo Excellence Award is presented to an individual who is dedicated to and has effectively and efficiently promoted the field of IS risk management, audit and assurance, governance, security and cyber security. It is intended for achievement that exceeds the norm. This award was presented to Muvhango Livhusha because he is passionate about the profession and has volunteered at the Pretoria regional meetings on a continual basis. He encourages and motivates his colleagues and peers to become members and is a valued asset to ISACA SA Chapter.

Contribution Award: Nelson Mandela University CRICS. The award was presented to Prof Mariana Gerber and Prof Reinhardt Botha

CRICS (Centre for Research in Information and Cyber Security) aims “to address all types of activities that can assist in enhancing information and cyber security in general”. A large part of this focus tends towards the academic and research inclination, as evidenced by their list of academic publications. However, this nomination focuses on another aspect of the work done at CRICS: The teaching, development and preparation of students and graduates for the world of work.

The Young Professional of the Year Award: Ronan Govender (Senior Specialist Auditor at RMB Bank)

The Young Professional of the Year Award is offered to an individual who is 35 years of age or younger and demonstrates passion, growth, a desire to learn and commitment to professional development in the field IS risk management, audit and assurance, governance, security and cyber security. The award was presented to Ronan Govender for exceeding in his level.

Best 2018 Conference Presenter Award: Patrick Ryan and Amanda Hechter (Mobius Consulting)

The Best 2018 Conference Presenter Award is based on delegate feedback from the ISACA South Africa 2018 annual conference.

Delegates commented that the presentation was insightful, and the winners received an average score of 4.8 out of a total of 5.

The President's Award: Lynn Martin (Director, Mobius Consulting)

The President’s Award is presented for dedication to service and leadership with regards to the field of IS risk management, audit and assurance, governance, security and cyber security in South Africa. Lynn Martin has actively supported the chapter through support of the inaugural COBIT 2019 conference earlier in the year, helping progress our strategic initiative of formal recognition as a professional body through the provision of volunteers throughout the year, her contribution to the SheLeadsTech event in the Western Cape in August 2019, and ongoing motivation and encouragement.

ISACA SA also acknowledged top scorers for exams written during the year. The top scorers for the respective exams were:

Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA):

  1. Nichola Moorish
  2. Gustav D’ Assonville
  3. Rowan Parkerson

Certified Information Security Manager (CISM):

  1. Brian Stanley
  2. Balkrishna Dilraj
  3. Christoffel Vermeulen

Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC):

  1. Zula Nhleko
  2. Hendrik Engelbrecht
  3. Abbigirl Mahomva

Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT):

  1. Shile Ndlovu
  2. Philip Lemekwane
  3. Reeny Thomas

Cybersecurity Nexus Practitioner (CSXP):

  1. Jaco Cloete

The 2018 – 2020 ISACA South Africa Chapter Board of Directors are extremely proud of the achievements of its membership community and is committed to providing continued value to its members.
