Attempts to connect on the Vodacom network proved futile for some users on Monday, as the country’s biggest mobile operator experienced downtime.

Although Vodacom did not provide details on the cause of the outage, the telco took to Twitter to acknowledge the issue.

It tweeted: “Vodacom is aware of an issue impacting connectivity to some of its customers. Our technicians are working hard to resolve the issue. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”

The telco later added: “Vodacom has identified and remedied a fault with a core network element at one of our sites that impacted data connectivity to certain customers. Impacted services are currently being restored. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”

The mobile operator faced a barrage of criticism from its customers, who also took to social media platforms to complain about the outage.

One Vodacom user said: “@Vodacom seriously – no network second time in two weeks. Thank goodness for WiFi. Hope we get some reimbursement for non-delivery of service.”

Said another customer: “Am I the only one experiencing issues with @Vodacom network? #vodacom.”
