Gautrain makes it easier for commuters to pay.

Gauteng MEC for transport Ismail Vadi yesterday launched the new Gautrain mobile app and restructured Web site at the Technology Innovation Conference in Johannesburg.

According to Vadi, the Gautrain app has a variety of features enabling passengers to plan their trips in advance and manage their profiles.

Passengers will also be able to reload funds, purchase cards in bulk and monitor their Gautrain transaction history.

Commuters can link their bank cards and Gautrain cards, making transactions more convenient, says Dr Ingrid Jensen, executive manager, reputation at Gautrain Management Agency.

"Bank cards, as well as a Gautrain card, can be linked to an account and this enables the user to transfer funds directly to their Gautrain account. We also support American Express cards."

Jensen also addressed travellers' online safety concerns. "The Web site and app were developed to the strictest security guidelines to ensure protection of personal details. Any personal identifiable information, as well as payment card details, are strictly in line with e-commerce requirements and when stored, comply fully with POPIA."

According to Jensen, the site and information are simple to navigate and are what Gautrain commuters have been asking for.

"We worked hard to ensure the navigation and access to information on the new Web site and app are as intuitive as possible. We continually evaluate the feedback from our commuters, and will make adjustments where required in future updates."

The Gautrain app is available on both iStore and Google Play Store.
