Greater power, capacity from Netgear's expanded Insight Managed smart switch family

By Tobie van Schalkwyk, business development manager at Duxbury Networking, the local Netgear distributor.

Johannesburg, 14 Aug 2018

Targeted at small and medium-sized businesses, Netgear's two new 52-port smart cloud switches are designed to offer more capacity, assisting organisations to better leverage the cloud, Internet of things (IOT) and other IP devices to facilitate growth.

The new switches, dubbed the Netgear Insight Managed Smart Cloud GC752X and GC752XP, are managed by Netgear's Insight app or Insight Cloud Portal, providing easy set-up with anywhere remote/cloud monitoring, management and advanced security.

The switches are the first 52-port Gigabit Ethernet Switches with 2 SFP and 2 SFP+ 10G ports with Insight management. Additionally, the GC752XP adds 48 POE+ ports with a significant 505W power over Ethernet (POE) power budget.

The switches, which do not require complex software, additional hardware or a large IT staff to power business-critical infrastructures, offer a surplus of POE power, uplinks and ports for expansion while delivering whisper-quiet operation for easy placement of devices.

All Netgear Insight Managed products are fully integrated cloud-manageable devices. They require no additional hardware, such as cloud keys, local servers, VPN or proxy appliances. Additionally, no complex set-up is required to connect directly to the cloud.

The Netgear Insight Managed products are also fully functional networking and storage solutions in local mode and do not require cloud connectivity to function. This capability allows users to decide when and how to use the cloud-connected solution, changing modes as required.

Netgear's new switches support a full suite of advanced L2+/L3 Lite switching features and are designed to meet the current and future needs of a fully converged network. The Insight single-pane-of-glass view displays granular port level management capabilities.

The new switches join the line-up of six additional Insight Managed Smart Cloud Switches ranging from 10 ports to 28 ports, which are among the industry's first fully integrated, cloud-manageable network switches for small and medium-sized businesses.

In a complementary move, Netgear has updated its highly rated Insight cloud management system, giving it additional functionality and POE controls. The Insight 5.0 management solution facilitates easy device onboarding, intuitive set-up, remote management and full network monitoring.

A range of compelling new features has been added for heightened security and ease-of-use. They include a firmware scheduler that allows users to create an automated update schedule based on a "best-time" basis and improved security with two-factor authentication.

There is also improved in-app support, providing easy access to Netgear's knowledge base and support videos, to aid troubleshooting.

From a management perspective, Insight 5.0 provides a unified, single-pane-of-glass view with simplified access to both product information and support. It is the answer to the once tedious set-up and configuration of devices either in individual device GUI silos or via overwhelming device management tools created for complex enterprise networks.

Netgear Insight is available as either a free app for iOS and Android mobile devices or as a Web portal accessible from any Internet-connected Web browser.
