Initial availability of VMware HCX technologies announced

VMware has made several announcements at VMworld in Barcelona this week, which it said would help VMware Cloud Provider partners migrate VMware workloads, expand service offerings and lower cost through automation and more efficient operations.

Firstly, the company announced the initial availability of VMware HCX technologies to enable multi-cloud and multi-site application migration and portability.

The company's CEO Pat Gelsinger said VMware HCX technologies deliver any-cloud-to-any-cloud secure, seamless interoperability and mobility, enabling large-scale application migration and ongoing portability with no application downtime or refactoring.

HCX technologies is offered through VMware Cloud Providers and is initially available from IBM and French cloud computing company OVH. It allows customers to modernise data centres with the most up-to-date VMware software-defined data centre offerings while retaining business continuity, application uptime, network architectures and performance.

In addition, he says HCX technologies provide operational support to enable efficient cloud migration and protect the integrity of applications at the origination and destination cloud.

Data synchronisation, network extension; traffic engineering; automated VPN and WAN optimisations; and built-in security all provide the operational capabilities to ensure efficient and effective cloud migration, says VMware.

The solution also enables infrastructure hybridity. Customers can now securely extend data centres to the cloud while maintaining the same governance and control, says the company.

HCX technologies also create a secure, high-performance and highly reliable hybrid fabric that seamlessly interconnects multiple sites. It provides flexibility to deploy workloads on the cloud for regional and cyclical capacity, supporting bi-directional mobility, business continuity and disaster recovery.
