Software AG unveils next generation of Adabas, Natural

Johannesburg, 21 Feb 2006

Software AG has announced the next-generation versions of its Adabas transactional database and Natural development platform. Devon Dalbock, Director of Software AG South Africa, says Adabas 2006 and Natural 2006 are designed to provide customers with an even greater return on their IT infrastructure investment, based on powerful new tools that enable SOA, Web services, open source development environments and AJAX-based rich Internet applications.

In addition, cross-platform support and event-driven data replication offer customers full freedom in choosing and mixing the right development and deployment platforms to address their business needs.

"Our customers are clearly moving to SOA, as well as consolidating and standardising their IT operations, to achieve cost reduction, agility, speed and greater efficiency," Dalbock says. "Adabas 2006 and Natural 2006 are ideal platforms to support our customers' exciting new vision for the interaction of business and technology."

Leading businesses and government organisations throughout the world, including Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminal, Credit Guarantee, Medihelp and Standard Bank depend on Adabas and Natural to support operations directly tied to their business success.

Adabas 2006 delivers extremely high transaction levels (for example, more than 150 000 transactions per second), with a fraction of the staff and system resources needed for a comparable relational database management system. This makes Adabas 2006 a very cost-effective solution for enterprise scale data management.

Adabas 2006 highlights include support for:
* Virtually unlimited volumes of data;
* Real-time, event-driven distribution of data into Adabas, relational databases and XML;
* Open interfaces with Web services, JDBC and ODBC;
* Standard data queries with SQL and XQuery; and
* A single environment to manage large multimedia files along with structured data.

Furthermore, Adabas 2006 offers cross-platform support from the latest mainframe environments to Linux, Unix and Windows, all with a single browser-based administration tool that can manage data across multiple locations.

Natural 2006 excels as a new application development platform due to its openness, flexibility, simplicity and efficiency. Typically, it requires fewer lines of code for a given task than other development environments. Natural 2006 also provides a quick learning curve, reducing the training time required before developers can begin productive work.

Natural 2006 highlights include support for:
* The Eclipse development environment;
* Web services, SOA, and rich Internet applications;
* Mainframe, Linux, Unix and Windows; and
* Service-oriented development of business applications.

Dalbock adds that specific new products are planned for introduction as part of the Adabas 2006 and Natural 2006 product portfolios, including the Adabas SOA Gateway and Natural Business Services announced earlier this year.
