ZTE ranked global top three, with over 1 424 families of 5G declared Standard-Essential Patents to ETSI

ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a leading provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the mobile Internet, has declared 1 424 families of 5G Standard-Essential Patents (SEP) and patent applications to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), by 15 June 2019, thereby being included in the global top three, according to IPlytics, a market intelligence tool to analyse technology trends, market developments and a company’s competitive position.

Standard-Essential Patent ownership is one of the main manifestations of the technical strength in the industry. Compliant with the requirements of ETSI, ZTE has timely disclosed its 5G Standard-Essential Patents to the industry.

With 5G as its core strategy for development, ZTE has been focusing on the R&D commitment to 5G-related fields, including wireless, core networks, transport, chipset and devices, expecting to reshape technologically leading advantages.

The company has more than 3 500 5G patent applications, as well as over 200 5G chipset patents. In 2018, the company's R&D investment accounted for more than 12% of its revenue. In 2019, the company will continue to increase 5G R&D investment, and adhere to technological innovation as the foundation, continuously improving customer satisfaction and increasing market share.

As a major contributor and participant in the research of global 5G technologies and standards, ZTE has been among the “Tier-1 Camp” of global patent deployment. In 2018, ZTE has filed 2 080 patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), with its cumulative PCT patent applications reaching 29 000. It is the ninth consecutive year for the company to be among top five PCT applicants worldwide. ZTE ranked first in PCT patent applications in 2011, 2012 and 2017 respectively.

By 31 December 2018, ZTE had applied for more than 73 000 global patent assets, including more than 35 000 granted patents worldwide. With membership in over 70 international standardisation organisations, such as ITU, 3GPP, ETSI, IEEE, NGMN and CCSA, ZTE’s experts take the key positions, such as president and reporter, in international standardisation organisations. ZTE has submitted more than 45 000 papers to the international standardisation organisations, including over 7 000 5G NR/NexGenCore international standard proposals.

By means of complete 5G end-to-end solutions, ZTE has collaborated with global and domestic operators in the 5G arena, with more than 200 strategic partners in the field of 5G industry applications.
