Rise of robo-hunters: how AI is reshaping cyber security

Until recently, business has relied on human security analysts to monitor systems, analyse threats, and take action. However, there simply aren't enough cyber experts in the world to keep up with the evolving threat landscape and rise of cyber crime.

This is why a compelling near-term case for artificial intelligence (AI) deployment is for cyber security, says Debra Bordignon, CTO of Dimension Data Australia.

She says an AI-enabled cyber security landscape is more actively aware and instantly alert to changes, identifying new patterns as they emerge, modelling likely scenarios, intervening, analysing outcomes, and generating new counter-response capabilities.

In her blog: "The rise of robo-hunters", Bordignon discusses the possibility of 'robo-hunters', or AI-enabled bots, that have the ability to scan changes in an organisation's environment that could indicate potential threats.

They'll learn from their discoveries and take appropriate action, such as isolating a compromised device. This will enable more businesses to move from a proactive to a predictive security posture, she adds.
