Enterprise network and data centre needs are changing dramatically.

Oracle is buying networking equipment vendor Talari Networks. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the transaction is expected to close before the end of 2018.

According to the companies, Talari's SD-WAN is used by more than 500 customers in over 40 countries.

Talari also develops Failsafe, which it says offers secure site-to-site and site-to-cloud connectivity and application access over any IP network.

Oracle says the addition of Talari's technology is expected to complement its communications session border controller and network management infrastructure by adding high-availability and quality-of-experience connectivity and cloud application access across any IP network with the reliability and predictability of private networks.

According to Oracle, the companies will accelerate digital transformation and cloud adoption by providing organisations with total enterprise network solutions that ensure reliability and performance of real-time communications and mission-critical applications over any network.

Drew Lydecker, president and co-founder of AVANT, the only master agent distributing Talari services, says: "The pace of change in IT is continuing to accelerate. Companies people had never heard of just a few years ago are disrupting the IT landscape. SD-WAN is the latest example and Talari is the prototypical disruptor."

Lydecker says the network world has not changed much over the past decade, but enterprise network and data centre needs are changing dramatically with migration to cloud services, growing mobile workforces and dramatically changing enterprise WAN network patterns.

"The demands on enterprise application performance have never been greater," he adds. "Talari SD-WAN makes today's enterprise applications dance and puts the power of enterprise WAN back into the hands of the enterprise, democratising utilisation of carrier services.

"The behemoths like Oracle are gobbling up the nimble innovators and disruptors like Talari as a way of leapfrogging into this new technology space."

SD-WAN is really about improving the application experience and enhancing the WAN security posture, and will be a "phenomenal complement" to Oracle's portfolio, he comments.

In a statement, Oracle said it is reviewing the existing Talari Networks product roadmap and will provide guidance to customers in accordance with Oracle's standard product communication policies.
