EDS has announced the successful completion of the MRO project of Lufthansa CityLine. This project reached its conclusion in the remarkably short time of only 19 months, owing to intensive collaboration between the companies.
Lufthansa CityLine sought a replacement of various existing mainframe based IT-solutions for its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisation by one fully integrated client-server solution. The solution was to cover the entire MRO process chain of the organisation of Lufthansa CityLine. Before issuing the request for proposal (RFP), the company had already decided to opt for a SAP solution.
EDS proposed to use axsMaintenance, its pre-configured SAP R/3 reference and training system based on Release 4.6C2 including the industry solution Aerospace & Defense (A&D). Thus the entire project could be split into three major phases instead of the normal five for a standard SAP implementation, according to the Value SAP Methodology. With the axsMaintenance solution, the project team needed a far shorter time for familiarisation with the new system environment and had an inside view of the new solution on a live system from the outset.
Having completed the evaluation process, Lufthansa CityLine chose EDS as its project partner for MRO. EDS won this mandate ahead of a number of well-known competitors thanks to its profound MRO know-how and IT expertise in the area of aircraft maintenance.
EDS`s approach gave this project a jumpstart in November 2001 by setting up Project Jonas (Join our New Application System). Based at Lufthansa CityLine in Cologne, Project Jonas` team of EDS consultants had full responsibility for the MRO business area. The new system went live on 11 June 2003.
Having completed Project JONAS for Lufthansa CityLine within both budget and time frames, a few highly qualified EDS-MRO consultants are still responsible for the MRO post implementation support phase. The EDS consultants will also be instrumental in identifying future development needs.
