F5 Networks, the global application delivery networking company, has appointed Matthew Barker as a director for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Barker, according to the company, has been tasked with bolstering development in key markets, with security and cloud being the key focus areas, along with security, multi-cloud deployments and a further expansion of channel reach.

He will lead a team comprised of salespeople, channel staff and system engineers focused on consolidating the company's position in the region.

Diego Arrabal, Middle East and Africa VP, explains that expansion is vital to push the company mandate.

"As we continue to stand out in the market for application security and performance management in the cloud, it is vital we expand the ambition and capability of our team.

"Barker is an important appointment as we ramp up our business and channel impact across Africa. He has extensive experience driving sales growth in challenging environments, as well as a strong track record in impactful channel achievement and we are delighted to have him on board."

Barker was previously employed as Aruba Networks' Sub-Saharan Africa country manager, NetApp's channel manager and Symantec's partner manager. He joins F5 from Fortinet, where he was sales manager for secure access architecture in Africa.

Speaking on the appointment, Barker says he is excited to join the growing team. "F5's profile, focus and solutions are gaining traction across Sub-Saharan Africa. The challenge now is to take the business to the next level, capitalising on our growing security portfolio and clients' need to unlock new levels of performance via the cloud."

F5 has made a number of strategic appointments this year, including Francois Locoh-Donou as global company president and CEO in January, Adam Judd as senior VP for sales in Asia Pacific in March, and Gabriel Breeman as VP for partner sales and alliances in Asia Pacific earlier this month.
