NetIQ joins Cloud Security Alliance

Collaboration on security best practices aims to further adapt security, audit and compliance programmes to new computing demands.

Johannesburg, 09 Dec 2010

To further promote security best practices and standards, NetIQ has joined the Cloud Security Alliance, a not-for-profit organisation formed by end-users, vendors and other stakeholders to further educate the market on the impact of cloud computing on security and compliance programmes.

Security standards and practices currently vary considerably from one cloud vendor to another, making it difficult for end-users to confirm appropriate IT controls are in place. In response, the Cloud Security Alliance - comprised of noted experts across governance, law, network security, audit, application security, storage, cryptography, virtualisation and risk management - aims to:

* Develop and publish best practices recommendations for addressing security, audit and compliance needs specific to cloud computing; and
* Encourage vendors to implement these standards and market them as a competitive advantage.

With a focus on providing comprehensive security, compliance and identity management solutions that can meet ever-changing end-user needs and demands, NetIQ chose to join the Cloud Security Alliance to further demonstrate its commitment to providing both customers and the security community with trusted technology that adheres to industry best practices and standards.

“We are thrilled to welcome NetIQ to the Cloud Security Alliance, and we believe that this partnership will help bring greater transparency and security to cloud computing as organisations continue to evaluate and invest in this potentially disruptive technology,” said Jim Reavis, founder of the Cloud Security Alliance. “Together, we are focused on providing the most up-to-date information on cloud security and our joint objective is to better educate security and operations departments on cloud security best practices.”

“As a long-time advocate for securing data wherever it resides - including the cloud - we look forward to working with the Cloud Security Alliance to achieve industry-wide audit and compliance standards for cloud computing,” stated Matt Ulery, director of Product Management, NetIQ. “Our participation in this unique association will allow us to better support our customers' needs as they look to adapt security and compliance programmes to meet the specific demands of cloud technologies and services.”
