M86 Security unveils enhanced secure Web gateway

WebMarshal 6.5 secures organisations from sophisticated Internet threats with real-time malware threat detection.

Orange, California, 09 Sep 2009

M86 Security, a global provider of Web and messaging security products, today announced the availability of WebMarshal 6.5, a secure Web gateway product that enables organisations to address three key business issues - Web threat security, Web access control and data leakage prevention.

WebMarshal 6.5 is the first product to fully integrate technologies from the former Marshal and 8e6 Technologies. With this release, M86 Security introduces TRACEnet, a Web threat security service, along with several other new features and upgrades.

Companies face a barrage of online threats, including viruses, Trojans, spyware, scareware, botnets, blended threats and other forms of malware that make it difficult for employees to use the Web safely and productively. At the same time, companies must protect their sensitive information and deploy methods to combat data leakage.

WebMarshal 6.5 addresses these threats and concerns by checking all inbound and outbound Web traffic against an organisation's security and acceptable use policies and taking appropriate action to mitigate risks. The new version also delivers malware detection, enhanced URL filtering, reporting and Web access policy to protect organisations of all sizes.

"WebMarshal 6.5 represents an important milestone in the direction and strategy of the company. Not only does adding the M86 Filter List and TRACEnet technology enable us to set the bar for secure Web gateway security solutions, but in this release, we've enhanced and added new key features that our customers have been asking for," said Werner Thalmeier, vice-president of product management at M86 Security. "The success of our business relies on providing comprehensive security protection to our customers. WebMarshal 6.5 meets the needs of our global customers and gives our channel partners the opportunity to grow their security business with an advanced Secure Web Gateway solution."

WebMarshal 6.5 establishes new performance and benefit standards for secure Web gateways, and includes the following new features:

Malware Threat Protection - TRACEnet is a new Web threat security service provided by the M86 Security Labs. It enables WebMarshal to block access to malicious phishing Web sites, anonymous proxies and focuses on blended threats and sites associated with botnets. Now, WebMarshal customers can automatically receive live feedback from thousands of WebMarshal servers around the globe delivering zero hour updates to better protect the enterprise from existing and emerging threats.

Highly Granular Filtering - The M86 Security Filter List provides WebMarshal customers with much improved access control policies and greater detail in Web activity reporting, encompassing millions of URLs in 100+ Web site categories, resulting in more accurate Web blocking and filtering.

Proxy caching - WebMarshal now allows caching of HTTP Web content to provide quicker response for users. The new feature keeps a local copy of popular or frequently accessed Web sites, saving load time and bandwidth for visits to those sites.

SafeSearch - WebMarshal now provides the ability for organisations to enforce use of the safe search features available in major search engines such as Google and Yahoo! The product automatically removes explicit or potentially offensive search results - pages most commonly infected with malware - from search engine queries.

Pricing and availability:

WebMarshal 6.5 is available now for download. Pricing ranges from $36 per seat for 25 users to $9 per seat for larger networks. WebMarshal also supports a range of optional anti-virus and anti-spyware scanners.
